The ESMS Social Studies department would like to recognize the following students- Madelyn Cardoso, Raghav Barman, Leisa Clements, Belicia Bafumo-Howard, Max Cook, Graison Gordon, Natalie May, and Minh Nguyen. On Tuesday night, these students were sent to compete in the 12th Annual Tifton/Tift County Geography Decathlon. They earned their spots by winning a preliminary test hosted by their Social Studies teacher and scoring the highest in their classes.
Tuesday’s event began with a 30 question written exam. Following the exam, Raghav, Belicia, Max, Natalie, and Graison advanced to the top 12 and moved on to the Bee round, where they competed in groups of four against high school students from TA Academy and TCHS. Each of these students did great in the Bee and won an atlas for placing in the top twelve.
Raghav continued to excel and made it into the final top 3, competing against two juniors from Tift Area Academy. It was a close round, but he worked hard and ultimately secured first place in the entire competition. He brought home the grand prize of $750 in scholarship money from the Tift County Foundation of Educational Excellence!
Be sure to congratulate these students as you see them today. We are proud of all our competitors and their outstanding achievements.
A special thank you to Dr. Bret Wagenhorst and the TCFEE for another great night of Geography fun!
